Columbus, GA - The Greenville Drive took a 3-2 lead into the final two innings of their game Thursday night with the Columbus Catfish, unfortunately they were unable to hold on for the victory as the Catfish scored in the eighth and ninth innings to win 4-3. With the loss the Drive dropped to 26-21 in the second half, and are now 11.0 games out of first as the Augusta GreenJackets one again.

The Drive offense got out to an early lead, scoring a run in their first at bat of the game. With two outs, Yahmed Yema belted his eighth home run of the season, a solo shot off of starting pitcher David Horlacher.

Unfortunately, the lead did not last long as the Catfish answered back for a run in the bottom half of the inning. Bridger Hunt led off the inning with a double down the left field line off of Michael Rozier. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from Adam Godwin, he scored on Travis Denker's double.

Columbus added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Denker led off with his second double of the game and then went to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later Lucas May hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Denker.

Greenville would regain the lead by scoring twice in the top of the fifth with two outs. Tony Granadillo reached with a leadoff walk and stole second. Unfortunately it looked as if he would be stuck there when Chris Turner and Dustin Kelly both struck out. Christian Lara would have other ideas as he doubled home Granadillo and scored as Mickey Hall followed with an RBI single.

In the eighth the Catfish were able to tie the game with a run off of Kyle Fernandes. With runners on first and second and two outs, David Sutherland singled up the middle to knock in Denker.

An inning later reliever Blake Maxwell surrendered the game-winning run, due in part to an error on Dominic Ramos. Juan Rivera reached base with a one out single to the second baseman, but a throwing error on the played allowed him to advance to second. Rivera was then able to advance to third on a Hunt ground out. Ivan DeJesus became the hero as he reached on an two-out infield single, plating Rivera.

Maxwell, who tossed 1.0 inning, suffered his second loss in as many decisions, dropping his record to 6-3 in 2006.

The Drive and Catfish continue their series tomorrow night as left-hander Ryan Phillips takes the mound for Greenville. Columbus will counter with right-hander Arismendy Castillo. The Drive return home on Tuesday, August 15 when they begin an eight-game home stand, starting with the New York Yankees affiliate, Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch for the 15th is set for 7:05 PM.
