Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive (0-1) offense provided some late inning excitement, but in the end it was the Kannapolis Intimidators (1-0) who prevailed, 3-2, on Opening Day at Fluor Field at the West End.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, the Drive had the opportunity to walk away with their fourth consecutive home opener victory. Down to their final out, the Drive were able to load the bases as Henry Mabee issued back-to-back walks to Ty Weeden and Kristopher Negron, before hitting Che-Hsuan Lin with a pitch.

Wander Perez then replaced Mabee and was able to secure the victory as he sat down David Mailman on three straight strikes.

The Drive jumped on the scoreboard in their first at-bat, as Josh Reddick doubled home Yamaico Navarro with two outs.

Starting pitcher Chris Province retired the first six batters he faced before a Manny Arambarris error allowed the first batter of the third inning, Joe Perisichina, to reach base. After a John Curtis single and a stolen base, Kannapolis tied the game as Perischina scored on a fielder's choice.

As both teams countered each other with one scoreless inning after another, the Intimidators took a two run lead in the top of the eighth. Sergio Morales and Dale Mollenhauer led off the frame with back-to-back doubles off Eamon Portice (0-1), accounting for the first run. Four batters later, Jose Martinez delivered a two-out, RBI-single for the eventual game-winning run.

The Drive would cut the lead to a run in the bottom half of the eighth, but were unable to plate another. With two outs, the Drive tallied three straight hits with a David Mailman double, a Navarro single, and an RBI-single off the bat of Reddick.

The Drive and Intimidators continue their four-game set tomorrow night with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Southpaw Nick Hagadone will toe the rubber for Greenville as Kannapolis counters with right-hander Jason Rice.

NOTES: The Drive are now 3-1 in home openers...With his 2-for-4 effort, RF Josh Reddick raised his career average at Fluor Field to .349 (66-for-189)...Attendance was 5232
