Greenville Drive News Release
Rome, GA - The Greenville Drive used a strong all-around performance to defeat the Rome Braves 8-3 on Monday night and even the series at one.
Five Drive (2-3, 27-47) position players logged multi-hit nights, led by Lorenzo Cedrola going 3-4 with three runs atop the lineup. Ryan Fitzgerald went 2-4 with a pair of RBI, while Samuel Miranda, Tanner Nishioka and Jordan Wren added two hits apiece.
Kutter Crawford (2-3) set the tone on the mound by allowing just two runs over five innings to get the win, and Angel Padron worked the final four innings, giving up just one run, to log his second save.
The teams traded runs in the first inning after RBI singles by Fitzgerald in the top half and Jean Carlos Encarnacion in the bottom half.
The Drive took the lead for good in the second against Odalvi Javier (2-4) as Cedrola was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Fitzgerald followed with a sacrifice fly.
A wild pitch on a strikeout in the third brought the Braves (2-3, 42-32) to within a run at 3-2, but that was the closest they would get to the lead.
Two runs in the fourth gave the Drive a 5-2 lead, and a three-run sixth featured a two-run triple by Marino Campana and a sacrifice fly by Pedro Castellanos.
Encarnacion's RBI triple in the seventh brought in the final run of the game.
The series finale between the Drive and Braves will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday in Rome. The Drive will send right-hander Hildemaro Requena (2-1, 6.67) to the mound against Braves right-hander Alan Rangel (2-4, 5.62).
