Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Travis Driskill, former Houston Astro and Texas Tech Red Raider, has been named Corpus Christi's pitching coach for the 2010 season. Houston Assistant General Manager Ricky Bennett announced Driskill's appointment today.

Driskill succeeds Stan Boroski, who served as Corpus Christi's pitching coach for the last three seasons. Boroski is the new assistant pitching coach for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Driskill spent last season as the pitching coach for the Lexington Legends of the Class A South Atlantic League after breaking into the coaching ranks in 2008 in the same capacity for Greeneville of the rookie level Appalachian League.

A fourth-round selection of the Indians in 1993, Driskill's playing career spanned 15 seasons, including portions of five years in the Major Leagues with Baltimore, Colorado and Houston. In 57 games and 19 starts during his career in the majors, Driskill was 11-14 with one save and a 5.23 ERA.

His best season came with the Orioles in 2002 when he went 8-8 with a 4.95 ERA in 29 games. Driskill also spent a portion of 1998 pitching for the Yakult Swallows of Japan's Central League.

Driskill's playing career ended in 2007 with Houston and the Triple-A Round Rock Express. In 466 career minor league appearances, including 164 starts, Driskill posted a 97-76 record with 72 saves and a 4.03 ERA.

A veteran of the Astros minor league organization since 1991, Boroski spent the last nine seasons as a pitching coach at three different levels in the system. His move to Tampa is the first Major League assignment for Boroski, whose professional baseball career began in 1981 when he was drafted as a catcher by the Milwaukee Brewers.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity," said Boroski. "I need to familiarize myself with American League hitters and their tendencies, and I'm very much looking forward to working again with Jim Hickey."

Hickey, Tampa Bay's pitching coach since 2008, worked in the same capacity for Houston for three and a half years after spending 14 seasons as a pitching coach in the Astros farm system.

"I was all set to return to Corpus Christi for a fourth year," added Boroski, "and believe me, I would have been happy to come back. Corpus Christi has been a great place to work and I was excited about some of the prospects that could potentially be pitching there this season. But the offer from the Rays was one I just couldn't pass up."

Boroski, who accepted the Tampa post in early December, becomes the second former Hooks field staffer to reach the big leagues. Dave Clark, who managed the Hooks from 2005 through 2007, returns in 2010 as the third base coach for the Astros after finishing last season as the club's interim manager.
