Gideon To Return As Drillers Manager
January 6, 2010 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers and the Colorado Rockies jointly announced today that Ron Gideon will return in 2010 as the Drillers' manager. It will be Gideon's first full season in charge of the ball club.
It was also announced that hitting coach Dave Hajek, pitching coach Bryan Harvey and trainer Austin O'Shea will also return to Tulsa this season.
Gideon replaced Stu Cole as manager of the Drillers on May 29 of last season when Cole was promoted to Triple A Colorado Springs by the Rockies. Gideon led the Drillers to a 50-44 after moving into the dugout. Tulsa failed to gain a berth in the Texas League playoffs despite compiling a 74-66 overall record, the best mark in the league's North Division.
"It is always exciting to return to the dugout," said Gideon. "It is especially nice to return to Tulsa. The opportunity to open the new stadium will be special for me as I am sure it will be for the entire city."
For Harvey, he enjoyed a successful first season in charge of the Drillers pitchers. Last year, the Tulsa staff finished with a team ERA of 3.78, the second best average in the TL. The team's 932 strikeouts were the best in the league.
Hajek returns for his third season of overseeing the Tulsa hitters. Overall, it will be his seventh year as a coach in the Rockies minor league system.
In 2008, Hajek helped a Tulsa offense that led all Texas League teams in hits and batting average.
For O'Shea, it will be his fifth season as trainer of the Drillers.
