Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Tulsa Drillers snapped Springfield's three-game winning streak, bringing an end to their own six-game skid, defeating the Redbirds by a score of 10-2 on Friday night at Drillers Stadium.

Tulsa's struggling offense came alive, pounding out ten runs and 14 hits, including three home runs against three Cardinals' pitchers.

Springfield took a short-lived 1-0 advantage over Drillers' starter Keith Weiser in the second inning, when Pete Kozma doubled home Tony Cruz.

Cards' starter Ryan Kulik gave up a pair of long balls in the bottom of the inning though. Mike McKenry's shot to left field tied the game at 1-1 to open the inning. After a Darin Holcomb single, Cole Garner followed with a two-run blast to left field, putting Tulsa in front to stay at 3-1.

Kulik was touched for two more runs in the third, as Jeff Kindel knocked in a run with an RBI groundout and McKenry doubled home another run, making it a 5-1 game.

The Cards loaded the bases in the fifth, but managed just one run. Steven Hill avoided a double-play, legging out a fielder's choice on a ground ball to short. On the play, Ryan Kulik scored to make it 5-2.

Cards' reliever Marco Gonzalez got roughed up for three in the sixth, as Darin Holcomb greeted him with a solo homer, his third, making it 6-2. Daniel Mayora's two-run single with two outs made it 8-2.

Tulsa got two more runs off Eddie Degerman in the seventh, as Garner and Brad Corley each knocked home a run with a hit, capping the Tulsa scoring at 10-2.

Weiser (4-5) scattered 10 hits over six innings, allowing two runs in the win.

Kulik (1-4) was hit with the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings.

Springfield (34-25) is now three games up on Northwest Arkansas and four games up over Tulsa with just 11 to play in the first half.

Lance Lynn (5-1) will take on Tulsa's Esmil Rogers (4-2) on Saturday in the series-finale, with game time scheduled for 6:05pm from Drillers Stadium.

The Cards will return after eight straight days on the road, for an eight-game home stand at Hammons Field. The home stand starts on Thursday, June 18th.
