Dayton Dragons News Release

The Dayton Dragons (16-16) tied a club record with 16 left on base, but managed to scratch out a 5-4 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (16-15) in the second game of a four game series Tuesday night at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

The Dragons got on the board in the top half of the first inning off Kernels starter Brett Cimorelli (ND), with a pair of SAC Flys off the bats of Justin Davis and Travis Wong. Domonique Lewis and Kevin Howard plated the first two Dragons runs after leading the game off with back to back singles and moving up on a Cimorelli balk. After the Wong RBI, his third of the series, the Dragons led 2-0.

The Kernels answered with two off Dayton starter Jan Granado (ND) in the bottom of the second. Alex Dvorsky delivered a RBI with a SAC fly and Matt Brown picked up a RBI single and the game was tied at 2-2.

Brown gave the Dragons a hand in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of errors that led to two runs scoring with two out. Jeff Marquez (L, 2-2) threw a couple of ground ball outs that Brown misplayed and he ended being the tough luck loser in the contest. Howard scored the go ahead run to make the score 3-2, with Wong crossing later in the frame to make the score 4-2.

Cedar Rapids outscored the Dragons the rest of the way 2-1, as the Kernels picked up single tallies in the fifth and seventh innings, with the Dragons notching a single run in the sixth. Cedar Rapids picked up it's third run off of Granado in the fifth on an RBI ground out from Jarred Abruzzo and it's fourth in the seventh, an unearned run, on a Miguel Perez throwing error. The Dragons picked up their final run in the sixth on a SAC fly from Junior Ruiz

Alexander Farfan (W, 2-0) picked up the win in relief of Granado, tossing 1.1 innings of one hit no run baseball. Todd Cofffey (S, 4) blanked the Kernels in the eight and ninth to earn the save.

The Dragons and Kernels play the third game of the four game series Wednesday night at Veteran's Memorial Stadium, in Cedar Rapids, beginning at 7:30 PM. 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live with the pre game show beginning at 7 PM.
