
Yankees' Streak Ends at Four

PEORIA, Ill. â The Peoria Chiefs snapped a seven-game losing streak â and a four-game winning streak by the Battle Creek Yankees â with a 6-2 win in a Midwest League baseball game Tuesday afternoon at O'Brien Field. With the four-game series tied at a game apiece, Game 3 is set for Wednesday night.
Peoria scored twice in the second, once in the fourth and three times in the sixth for a 6-0 lead.
The Yankees scored their first run in the seventh inning. Matt Carson led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a two-out RBI single by Andres Nunez.
Willie Vasquez slugged a solo home run â his second homer in as many days â to lead off the eighth and pull the Yankees within 6-2.
Battle Creek got just four other hits: a two-out single by Rudy Guillen in the second, a one-out double by Jason Drobiak in the fourth, a lead-off double by Eric Verbryke in the fifth, and a one-out single by Verbryke in the ninth.
Battle Creek starter and loser Anderson Garcia (1-1) struck out seven and allowed just one earned run in five innings. Chase Wright pitched the sixth, and Steven Wiseman pitched the seventh and eighth. The Yankees committed four errors.
Blake Hawksworth (4-0) picked up the win for the Chiefs.
