Dayton Dragons News Release
The Dayton Dragons (18-20) and Clinton Lumber Kings (15-20) were forced into a get away day double header at Alliant Energy Field following the high winds on Sunday afternoon that postponed the third game of the four game series. The Lumber Kings pounded the Dragons in game one 10-3, while the Dragons took the night cap by a 3-1 count
Dayton jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in game one off Clinton starter Cesar Herrera (ND). Travis Wong's two out RBI double in the second scored Ryan Hanigan for a 1-0 lead and Hanigan's two out RBI single in the third that plated Mark Schramek who doubled, and the Dragons led early.
It was all Clinton after that, as the Lumber Kings tagged Dayton pitching for 10 runs the rest of the way. Craig Ringe touched Jan Granado (L, 1-3) for a two run HR that tied the game in the third at 2-2. The Lumber Kings added another unearned run in the fourth with a RBI double from Nate Gold for a 3-2 lead. Clinton broke the game open with five in the fifth off Granado and Todd Coffey. Jonathan Berry fared no better in the sixth getting touched for two more runs as the Lumber Kings routed Dayton in game one.
Game two saw the Dragons jump out to the early lead again, picking up a single run in the top half of the first inning on a walk, a ground out and a two base error by the left fielder Cameron Coughlan. Coughlin's error scored Junior Ruiz who led the ball game off Lumber King starter Gary Hogan (ND) with the free pass, and the Dragons led 1-0.
Clinton tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth off Dayton starter Eddy Valdez (W, 4-1). Hector Lebron crushed Valdez's second pitch of the inning over the wall in center for his first HR of the season.
Travis Wong snapped the 1-1 tie with a two run homer off Zach Schara (L, 0-1). The blast was the first as a Dragon for Wong and would wrap up the scoring in game two.
Josh Daws (S, 2) blanked the Lumber Kings the final two innings to pick up his second save as a Dragon.
The Dragons are back at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday night to open an eight game home stand and a four game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. News Talk 1410 ESPN Radio carries the game live, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. The pre game show will get underway at 6:30 PM. LHP Camilo Vazquez (0-1, 6.23 ERA) gets the start for the Dragons against the Kernels.
