Dayton Dragons News Release
The Cincinnati Reds have assigned RHP Chris Booker to extended spring training in Sarasota, Florida. Booker will get the opportunity to continue to strengthen his surgically repaired right shoulder with more consistent work. He appeared in five games with the Dragons, with a 0-0 record and a 9.00 ERA and 5.0 innings of work. Booker missed all of the 2002 season after an operation to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder. He began the 2003 season in extended spring training in Sarasota, Florida.
OF Justin Davis has been promoted to the Potomac Cannons of the Carolina League. The Dragons outfielder takes the place of former Dragons outfielder Fernando Rios, who announced his retirement. Davis hit .242 for the Dragons with 3 HR and 24 RBI in 38 games.
Taking the place of Booker and Davis on the Dragons active roster are 3B/C Ryan Fry and OF B.J. Hawes. Fry, a 22nd round draft choice in 2001, is a career .243 hitter with 8 HR and 41 RBI in 88 games. He has split time in both 2001 and 2002 with the GCL Reds and the Billings Mustangs. Hawes is a familiar face in Dayton, having spent parts of the 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons in Dayton. Hawes appeared in 55 games in Dayton in 2002, hitting .257 with 0 HR and 27 RBI, before a shoulder injury ended his season. Both players head to Dayton from the Reds extended spring training.
