Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Seth Davidson hit an eighth-inning homer with two outs on Tuesday night as the River Bandits capped a late rally to defeat the Burlington Bees 4-3 at Community Field. Gerry Oakes allowed a run but picked up his first win as a River Bandit, while Ryan Smith and Pat Neshek each provided a scoreless inning to close it out. With the win, Quad City snapped a five-game losing streak while also extending Burlington's losing streak to six straight games.
Trailing 3-1 with two outs and two on in the eight, Davidson belted a three-run homer to give the River Bandits their first lead since the first inning. After Garrett Guzman singled to right to open the eighth frame, Drew Endicott retired two men in a row. Alex Romero fouled off a series of Endicott deliveries before singling into right field. Davidson followed by belting a three-run blast to straightaway right field, giving Quad City its first lead since the first inning.
Oakes allowed one run on two hits in the seventh inning but grabbed his first win as a member of the Minnesota Twins organization. Neshek and Smith combined to strike out two in two innings.
The teams exchanged sacrifice flies through the first inning, and the game was tied at one. Omar Burgos hit a fly ball to left to score Seth Davidson, who had doubled, in the bottom of the first and Tim Frend's flyout to right brought home Bernard Stephens to even the score.
The Bees took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Josh Hill walked both Bernard Stephens and Eric Lonnquist. With one out, the baserunners stole their way into scoring position, and Stephens came home on a wild pitch from Hill.
Oakes uncorked a wild pitch in the seventh to allow a run and set the stage for the Bandits' stirring comeback.
Hill allowed two runs in six innings to get no decision for Quad City. He struck out five and walked five and got no decision for his fifth straight start.
UP NEXT: The River Bandits and Bees continue the four-game series as Jason Miller (3-0, 2.70) goes to the hill against Colt Griffin (1-5, 4.50).
NEXT HOME GAME: The River Bandits return home to begin a four-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps on Saturday, May 17. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game will feature a Wisconsin Dells Kids Card giveaway, and will also be Milan Little League Night, sponsored by WHBF-TV.
