Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Fort Wayne TinCaps (affiliate of the San Diego Padres) in the first game of a four-game set. 2018 Season Series: Fort Wayne 7, Dayton 5 (at Fort Wayne: TinCaps 4, Dragons 2).
Last Game: Sunday: Bowling Green 13, Dayton 2. The Hot Rods gained a split of the season-opening four-game series as they pulled away from the Dragons with four runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth. Bowling Green hit three two-run home runs in the game and took advantage of 11 walks. The Dragons had just two hits, although they briefly held the lead. Michael Siani opened the game with a single, stole second and third, and scored on Mariel Bautista's sacrifice fly. But Bowling Green scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good. Bautista drove in both Dayton runs with sacrifice flies. He also had a double. The Dragons issued nine walks over the final two innings including six in the eighth to tie a club record for most walks allowed in an inning.
Team Notes
Dragons pitchers had a contrasting two-game set in Bowling Green on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, they combined on a five-hit shutout. Sunday, they allowed 15 hits, 11 walks, and 13 runs.
Dragons relievers had allowed just two runs in 15 innings prior to Sunday, when they surrendered 10 runs in four innings.
Individual Notes
Mariel Bautista ranks among the Midwest League leaders in several categories. He is first in slugging percentage (.857); second in total bases (12); tied for second in extra base hits (3); tied for third in RBI (4); sixth in OPS (1.269); and tied for 11th in batting average (.429).
Mariel Bautista has at least one hit in each of the four Dayton games, while Juan Martinez has hit safely in all three games he has appeared in. Pabel Manzanero has hit safely in the two games he has played in.
