Douglas Signed to Multi-Year Contract Extension

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has announced that three-time WNBA All-Star Katie Douglas has signed a multi-year contract extension that ensures she will finish her career in Indianapolis. A product of Perry Meridian High School and an All-American while leading nearby Purdue University to an NCAA title in 1999, Douglas is in her 10th WNBA season. As per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.

Acquired by the Fever in a 2008 blockbuster trade with the Connecticut Sun, the 6-0 shooting guard is a three-time All-WNBA performer and three-time member of the WNBA's All-Defensive Team. She ranks fifth in WNBA history with 504 3-point field goals, eighth with 495 steals, 15th with 4,059 points and 20th with 826 career assists.

Douglas needs just five steals to become the first player in WNBA history with 500 3-pointers and 500 steals. Those five steals also will make her the sixth player with 4,000 points and 500 steals.

"Katie has been such an integral part of our franchise success," said Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. "She is one of the elite guards in the WNBA and has been an inspirational role model in our community. I am very happy that she will remain in a Fever uniform for more seasons to come."

In three seasons with the Fever, Douglas has averaged 15.9 points per game while teaming with Tamika Catchings to carry Indiana to the WNBA Finals and the brink of a WNBA championship last season. Led by Catchings and Douglas, the Fever currently boasts the best record in the WNBA's Eastern Conference (19-10) and can clinch its sixth consecutive playoff berth with a win Friday over Phoenix.

Added Douglas, "I am very happy to know that I will play the rest of my career in Indianapolis. I was excited to return to my hometown and I am so fortunate to have the support of my friends, family, the entire Fever & Pacers organizations and all our great fans. It really has been a dream for me to play at this high level, here in Indy."

Following its first visit to the WNBA Finals and three consecutive sellout crowds during the 2009 WNBA Playoffs, the Indiana Fever is eager to pursue a sixth straight playoffs appearance and a return trip to the Finals in 2010. The Fever entertains the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, Aug. 13 (7:00 p.m.) for Inspiring Women Night presented by the U.S. Coast Guard and Merrill Lynch, and closes the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night on Sunday, Aug. 22 (5:00 p.m.) against the Minnesota Lynx.
