Silver Stars to Host Mental Health Awareness Night

SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 12, 2010 - The San Antonio Silver Stars will host their first Mental Health Awareness Night, spearheaded by Stars rookie center Jayne Appel, on Tuesday, Aug. 17, as the Stars tip-off against the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.

The game will feature a pregame talk with mental health awareness advocate Janet Paleo, adjacent to the Team Shop, as well as a postgame meet and greet with Appel on the court, during which she will speak about her personal experience with a family member with a mental illness and the importance of advocacy and supporting those in need.

Additionally, several organizations will have information available on the concourse: La Paz Community Health Care Services, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Laurel Ridge Hospital, Starlite Recovery Center, Telecare Mental Health, Haven for Hope, Bexar County Sheriff's Office Mental Health Unit, Center for Health Care Services, San Antonio State Hospital, Faith Based Mental Health, Clarity Child Guidance, Veterans' Affairs, Nix Hospital, Methodist Health Care, Prosumers, and Bringchange2mind.org.
