Doughboys Set Attendance Record in 14-1 Win Over Greeneville

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Opening day went off with a bang as a TVA Credit Union Ballpark record 4,254 fans saw the Doughboys mark the win column for the first time in 2023, 14-1, over the Greeneville Flyboys.

The record crowd wasn't left without excitement as the Doughboys took a few innings, then came the fifth.

The Doughboys would string together a few hits, then a Jonathan Xuereb single broke open the scoring and the floodgates opened for Johnson City.

The Doughboys would use pitching woes to their advantage, as a hit by pitch, a walk and a fielder's choice would bring in four more runs.

The scoring wouldn't stop there, as the Doughboys would send nine to the plate once again in the sixth, headlined by a two-run double for Cameron King. The hit would extend the Johnson City lead to 10, and it wouldn't be done yet.

Doughboys pitching didn't miss a beat as the Flyboys only had two runners reach third base in the first eight innings of the ballgame. The staff combined for 11 strikeouts and nine walks.

The seventh drew even more runs from Johnson City bats, as the Doughboys would take advantage of walks, loading up the bases before a trio of singles would drive in three runs, pushing it to a 13-0 score.

The Johnson City hitting would conclude in the eighth, with a Logan Sutter solo shot to right to give the Doughboys a two touchdown lead, 14-0.

The Doughboys would lose the shutout in the ninth, before Logan Sutter would come on the mound and finish out the ballgame after his home run, giving Johnson City a 14-1 win.

The Doughboys move to 1-0 on the season and complete the opening series on Wednesday at Greeneville.
