Doubleheader Split for Rome 4-1, 3-2

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and Columbia Fireflies split their doubleheader Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,023. Rome was victorious in game one 4-1 and the Fireflies bounced back in the nightcap 3-2. Two seven inning games were played.

Rome took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on Brendan Venter's sacrifice fly RBI. In the fourth, the Braves touched home twice thanks to a Venter run scoring single and Derian Cruz's sacrifice fly RBI for the 3-0 score. Rome made it a 4-0 game in the fifth on William Contreras' double to score a run. The only run of the game for Columbia came in the sixth on Matt Winaker's (6) solo home run. Rome held on for the 4-1 final. Odalvi Javier (3-7) enjoyed a nice outing going six innings allowing just one run on three hits. Columbia starter Nicolas Viall (3-6) gets the loss. Kelvin Rodriguez earns his eleventh save of the season.

Game two started out poorly for the home team as the Fireflies sent eight men to the plate and when the dust had settled it was a 3-0 game. Winaker had a sacrifice fly RBI and Zach Rheams (2) added a two run homer for Columbia. Rome got on the scoreboard in the fourth after Drew Lugbauer doubled, Hagen Owenby later doubled him home to make the score 3-1. Jean Carlos Encarnacion cracked his tenth home run of the season in the sixth to close to within a run. The Braves tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh getting a runner on with one out but failed to score as Columbia held on for the 3-2 final. The Fireflies Nicolas Debora (3-3) gets the win, and Rome's Freddy Tarnok (4-2) takes the loss.
