
Dorados and Kelly Kenning Team Up for Patriotic Bash

HIDALGO, TX: June 24, 2004 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados are on the road this week in Birmingham, Alabama, but when they return to the Dodge Arena on July 3rd, the Dorados and their fans will be greeted with a patriotic celebration. Airastar national recording country music artist Kelly Kenning will be performing at the BudZone FanZone outside the Dodge Arena beginning at 4 PM and he will play until the Dorados 7:30 PM kickoff against the Wichita Stealth, in which the Dorados will be wearing special commemorative patriotic themed jerseys. The jerseys are made possible by the United States Border Patrol and they will be auctioned off to the fans immediately following the game.
Kelly Kenning is a native of Alice, Texas and performs under the Airastar record label in his current residence of Nashville, Tennessee. He hit the Top 10 with the single titled "She Beat The Cheat Out Of Me" off of his album titled "Whatever it Takes" and currently has a Top 20 Single titled "The Ride of My Life." Kenning is to be featured in the July 2nd edition of The Monitor and his performance at the Dorados tailgate is presented by Budweiser.
The first 5,000 fans through the Dodge Arena turnstiles for the Dorados contest against the Wichita Stealth will be treated to ThunderSticks sponsored by the United States Border Patrol. The contest will be the last trip to the Dodge Arena this season for the Stealth, who upset the Dorados with a 35-27 win on May 8th. ADT Security Systems joins the US Border Patrol in making the promotions possible for the fans to enjoy.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as tailgating at the BudZone FanZone begins at 4 PM. While Kenning performs, fans can bring their own food, drinks and grills and have their own tailgating cookout. It is encouraged to bring beef fajitas and fans can enter the cookoff contest for prizes. Games for children will also be available thanks to Fun in the Sun. Tailgating is made possible at the Dodge Arena by Budweiser / L&F Distributors, South Texas Dodge Dealers, Clear Channel Radio and Fun in the Sun.
This week, the Rio Grande Valley Dorados make another non-divisional road trip and their first trip to Birmingham to face the Birmingham Steeldogs. The 8-3 Steeldogs are coming off a high scoring 67-64 loss at Tennesse Valley. Birmingham is 6-0 at home this season at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) and has just edged past their opponents in their last two home games, winning those contests by an average margin of 4 points. The Steeldgogs are led offensively by quarterback Kenton Evans, who ranks second in the af2 with a 119.6 pass rating, and by fullback Dontae Walker, who ranks third in rushing in the af2 with an average of 19.3 yards. On the defensive side, Anthony Jordan leads the af2 with 8 interceptions and Jerry Turner co-leads the af2 with 8 tackles for a loss and is ranked second in sacks with 7.5.
