Albany Firebirds News Release

Albany, N.Y., June 24, 2004 – The Green Bay Blizzard, who are coached by former Green Bay Packer linebacker, Brian Noble, will be making their first-ever trip to Albany when they kickoff against the Albany Conquest in an arenafootball2 match-up on Friday evening (June 25) at 7:30 p.m. at Pepsi Arena. The game will be followed by a full post-game concert by The Alabama Blues Brothers Band. The purchase of a ticket to the game entitles fans to see the concert.

Friday's meeting between the Blizzard and the Conquest shall be the first time the two franchises have competed against one another, with another meeting on the horizon July 9 in Green Bay, Wis.

There is absolutely no margin for error for the Albany Conquest going into week 13 of the af2 season. After a disappointing 69-43 loss to division rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last week, the Conquest look to get back on the winning path in time to salvage a playoff berth. At 4-7, Albany is not eliminated from contention, but can ill afford to add another loss if they wish to see post-season competition.

Albany currently ranks fifth in the league in rushing offense, producing five rushing scores last week against W-B/Scranton. The rushing-attack, led by FB/LB Rashon Burns (eighth in af2 in rushing yards) and the ever-elusive WR/DB Cy Butler, will be facing the league's 23rd ranked defense in Green Bay. The Conquest have their own defensive liabilities to worry about, however, as they are ranked No. 24 in the league in total defense.

As is always the case in arena football, Albany will need more than a strong rush attack to get a much-needed win this week. Conquest offensive specialist Tony Locke, who was held in check for the most part in last week' s loss to the Pioneers, will need to catch plenty of TD passes from Albany QB D. Bryant on Friday night. Locke is third in af2 in points scored (180), touchdowns (30), and all-purpose yards (2,038). Locke is also fifth in receiving yards with 1,083.

Fans interested in buying tickets to Friday night's game can do so at the Pepsi Arena Box Office or by calling TicketMaster at (518) 476-1000. More information is available by visiting www.albanyconquest.com or by calling the Conquest offices at (518) 487-2222.
