Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, trying to strengthen their position for a playoff berth, play host to the Tennessee Valley Vipers this weekend in a game that could rank as the most important in Xplorers franchise history.
The Xplorers, coming off a clutch, come-from-behind 55-54 road triumph over the Manchester Wolves, currently stand at 6-5 on the season. They sit two games behind the Vipers (8-3), who lead the Mid-South Division and are coming off a come-from-behind win of their own versus Birmingham last week.
This weekend's game will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season. Tennessee Valley won the first contest in Huntsville, edging out the Xplorers in a close 44-33 battle. With that win, the Vipers moved to 5-0 all-time versus the Xplorers.
A win would mean a remarkable number of things for Memphis. Not only would it give them their first-ever win over Tennessee Valley in four years of play, but it would also give the Xplorers seven wins on the season. Those seven wins would represent a new franchise record for victories in a season, eclipsing last year's mark of six wins.
The win would also move the Xplorers to within a game of the lead in the Mid-South Division with four games to play, and would keep them at least a full game ahead of their nearest competition for a wild card berth. Memphis has never made the playoffs in its four years of existence.
Memphis will hope to continue the offensive efficiency of their previous game, which saw them score over 50 points for the sixth time this season. They will add a new and exciting component to that offense this week, as WR/DB Adrian Burnette joins the roster. Burnette played 13 games for the Xplorers last year, catching 66 passes for 680 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Game time this week is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST, with pre-game scheduled for approximately 6:55 PM. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC, and worldwide on SportsJuice.com. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio. Fans can also watch the Xplorers during selected games during the season on AF2TV.com, which offers live streaming video and audio on a pay-per-view basis.
