Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (November 28, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Milwaukee Wave defender, Chad Dombrowski, has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. It is the second consecutive week that a Milwaukee defender took home the award and the third time in the season's first four weeks. Lovelace Ackah (November 7) and Troy Dusosky (November 21) were the other winners.
The UW-Milwaukee alumnus scored the first goal of the game on Saturday and was active on both sides of the field during the Wave's 9-2 victory over the California Cougars. Dombrowski played a large role in a Milwaukee defensive effort that kept California off the scoreboard for the first 47:13 of the game. He finished the contest with one goal and tied for the team lead with three blocks.
The 2005-06 season is Dombrowski's second in the MISL and also his second with the Wave. Through four games, he is tied for second on the team with five blocks. Dombrowski has also contributed a goal and three shots on the offensive end of the field. He is a big part of a top-ranked Milwaukee Wave defense that has helped the team get out to a 4-0 start. The defense is allowing the fewest goals per game (2.8) and is tied for the league lead with 36 blocks on the year.
Dombrowski signed with the Wave midway through the 2004-05 season after being selected by Milwaukee in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft. In 27 career games (including four playoff games) between this year and last season, he has contributed two goals, one assist and 17 blocks. He has also played for the Wave United and Minnesota Thunder.
The MISL also named their Goalkeeper and Offensive Players of the Week on Monday. The St. Louis Steamers' Brett Phillips took home the Goalkeeper of the Week honors for his role in a 8-4 Steamers win over the Philadelphia KiXX. Meanwhile, in Chicago, forward Mark Ughy of the Chicago Storm scored two goals in a 4-3 win over the Baltimore Blast to earn the Offensive Player of the Week award.
Milwaukee (4-0) has two home games in the next two weeks. The St. Louis Steamers come to town for a 1:05 p.m. game on Saturday, December 3 and the Philadelphia KiXX visit December 9. Local Christian rock band, Jericho will perform pre-game and halftime concerts as part of the Wave's "Faith and Family Night." Tickets for all Wave home games ($12, $14, $16, and $20) can be purchased by calling 414-224-WAVE. Wave tickets are also available at all Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com.
