GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Brett Phillips, St. Louis Steamers

Brett Phillips' performance in the St. Louis Steamers first win of the season on Saturday, was not the only solid goalkeeping performance around the League, but was perhaps the most dynamic. In addition to saving seven of Philadelphia's 11 shots on goal, before a crowd of 5.825 at St. Louis' Savvis Center, Phillips scored both a goal and an assist in the Steamers 8-4 defeat of the dangerous Philadelphia KiXX. The 36-year-old goalkeeper, who'd been bombarded, surrendering 12 Baltimore goals the week before, was able to put that showing behind him to keep St. Louis on top for the duration of this game. Phillips, a native of Tampa, Fla., who began his professional indoor soccer career with the Harrisburg Heat in the 1992-93 season, is in the second year of his current stint with St. Louis. Previously he helped lead Baltimore to an MISL Championship following the 2003-04 season. This is Phillips first weekly honor of 2005-06. He was named Goalkeeper of the Week three times in 2004-05.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chad Dombrowski, Milwaukee Wave

Chad Dombrowski jammed in the game's opening goal and then returned to his defender position to help anchor another top defensive effort for the MISL's top defensive team in 2005-06. Dombrowski, a native of West Allis, Wisc., who attended the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, added three blocks in Saturday's crushing of the California Cougars, 9-2. The 25-year-old has five blocks on the season for the Wave who sit atop the MISL standings with a 4-0 record and a 1.5 game lead over second-place Baltimore. He was originally drafted by the Wave (eighth overall) in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft, and was also selected in the MLS draft. On February 10, 2005, Dombrowski agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Wave. He scored his first career professional indoor goal in the 2005 MISL Championship Series Finals Game Two win over the Cleveland Force. This is his first MISL Weekly honor.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mark Ughy, Chicago Storm

Mark Ughy, one of the MISL's most respected target players, made his season debut on Sunday, scored a pair of goals, and helped the Chicago Storm even its record at 2-2 with a 4-3 defeat of previously-undefeated Baltimore at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The native of Hungary had practiced for just five days with the Storm before punching in a swiveling, back-to-the-goal score off a John Ball assist. He added another score for Chicago's third goal, and the Storm never again trailed. Ughy, acquired mid-season from San Diego in 2004-05, totaled 19 goals and nine assists for the Storm in 2004-05. Overall, he totaled 31 goals 11 assists that 2004-05 season and was named the MISL Offensive Player of the Month for October. This is Ughy's fifth season in the MISL.
