Chicago Dogs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Six Dogs had multi-hit games and Luke Westphal was excellent yet again as Chicago cruised past Kansas City, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at T-Bones Stadium.
Westphal (W, 4-0) continued his impressive start to the season, despite having his scoreless streak to start the season end at 28.1 innings. The Wisconsin native went five innings, allowing five hits, one run, one walk, and struck out five.
Chicago's bullpen held down the fort over the final four frames to back up Westphal. Carlos Zambrano worked a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth, Brandon Shimo was lights out in the seventh and Kyle Halbohn wrapped up the win.
The Dogs broke the game open with three runs in the sixth inning against T-Bones starter Tommy Collier (L, 1-3), using a flurry of base hits to break open the tie. Eight men were sent to the plate as Harrison Smith, Rey Gonzalez and David Olmedo-Barrera all drove in a run to make it 4-1 Dogs.
Chicago tacked on another in the eighth by way of back-to-back doubles by Gonzalez and Olmedo-Barrera against American Association debutee Erik Manoah, Jr., and since a Dogs win would not be complete without a home run, Tony Rosselli elected to hit his seventh of the year in the ninth to make it 6-2 in favor of Chicago. It was the league-leading 26th homer of the season.
The Dogs return to Impact Field on Monday as they kick off a three-game set against the Texas AirHogs. Trevor Simms (1-2) will get the start in game one and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
