Dogs score season high seven goals

HAMILTON, ON - Six different Hamilton players had multi-point games, leading the Bulldogs to a 7-2 win over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night.

At 4:22 of the first period, Bulldogs captain Jason Ward opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season. Ward took a nifty pass from Steve Ott and one-timed a shot that beat Ducks goaltender Frederic Cassivi. Philippe Plante also picked up an assist on the goal.

Hamilton jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 9:32 of the first period when defenceman Andrew Archer scored his first career AHL goal. Duncan Milroy and Tomas Plekanec recorded assists on the play.

Forward Steve Ott scored his tenth goal of the season at 13:40 of the first period. Ward tallied his second point of the game by setting up Ott who buried a hard shot past Cassivi. The goal gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead and chased Cassivi from the Ducks net in favour of Ilya Bryzgalov. Jean-Philippe Cote also had an assist on the goal.

Cincinnati got on the scoreboard at 8:17 of the second period with a 5-on-3 power play goal from defenceman Kurtis Foster. The goal, assisted by Michael Holmqvist, was Foster's eighth of the season and cut the Bulldogs lead to 3-1.

In the third period, Hamilton scored three consecutive power play goals to secure the victory. Chris Higgins posted his ninth goal of the season at 7:30, Tomas Plekanec notched his team-leading 14th goal at 14:27 and Philippe Plante tallied his second goal of the season, and fourth point of the evening, at 15:22.

Hamilton would add another goal at 17:40, courtesy of Tomas Plekanec's second goal of the night. Cincinnati responded twenty-four seconds later and rounded out the scoring when Zenon Konopka scored his ninth goal of the season.

Recording multi-point games for the Bulldogs were Phillipe Plante (1g, 3a), Tomas Plekanec (2g, 1a ), Steve Ott (1g, 2a), Jason Ward (1g, 2a), Andrew Archer (1g, 1a), and Duncan Milroy (2a).

After scoring a season high seven goals in a game and picking up the win, Hamilton's record now stands at 16-18-4-4.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will play three road games this week. The Bulldogs will face the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday, January 19 (8:00 p.m.), the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on Friday, January 21 (7:35 p.m.) and the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday, January 22 (8:30 p.m.).
