Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs News Release
Colonie, New York- The Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs announced today that left-handed pitcher Aric Leclair has been signed by the Kansas City Royals organization. Leclair will report to the Royals high-A affiliate in Burlington, Iowa, the Burlington Bees, either tomorrow or Thursday.
Leclair had been the most dominant member of the Diamond Dogs bullpen so far this year. In 22 appearances for Albany-Colonie, Leclair had compiled a record of 2-0, with three saves. In 32-and-one-third-innings of work, Leclair allowed just 20 hits, while striking out 45 and walking just 18. Opposing batters were hitting just .172 against the Swanzey, New Hampshire product.
Originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 19th Round of the 2000 free agent draft, Aric spent two seasons in the Diamondbacks chain with the team's affiliate in South Bend, Indiana. Leclair becomes the first Diamond Dog to be signed by a major league organization this year. It is the fourth player that Manager Mike Marshall has had signed during his tenure as Diamond Dogs manager (Chris Chavez, Scott McKee, Kevin Reinking).
The Diamond Dogs begin a three-game series in Quebec this evening. They return home this Friday, July 26th for a weekend series versus the Brockton Rox.
