Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped a game for the first time in the season's second half on Thursday night, as they fell 8-7 to the Wilson Tobs at "The Swamp."
The Dogs scored first when Zach Gawrych (Tampa) stole home in the first inning after doubling to lead off the frame. It was the second time the Stewart Nissan Steal of a Lifetime Promotion was enacted this season for Fayetteville. A lucky fan's name was drawn to win the second car giveaway of the season, as Thiaichi Houston was named a winner.
The SwampDogs scored one run in the first, second and third innings, respectively, highlighted by doubles by Gawrych and John Howell (Binghamton).
Fayetteville extended their lead to 7-0 when they tallied four runs in the fourth inning alone. The first four hitters of the inning all came around to score, aided by erratic Wilson pitching and another Howell double.
The Tobs answered in the fifth, however, as they scored six times to pull within one run of the Dogs, chasing starter Max McDonald after he had retired 12 of the first 13 Tobs he faced.
That lead held for Fayetteville until the eighth inning, when Wilson scored two runs to take their first lead of the game, 8-7. That proved to be the final score as the Dogs dropped to 20-11 overall on the season.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Saturday, July 7th, where it's Lifelong Memories Night at "The Swamp." The first 500 fans will receive a 2012 souvenir team photo courtesy of Miller Motte College.
