Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- The Thomasville Hi-Toms can claim something no other team in the Coastal Plain League can. The Hi-Toms are the only team to have beaten the Forest City Owls twice at McNair Field. Thomasville handed Forest City just its third loss at home, beating the Owls 8-4 on Thursday night.

The trouble started in the 3rd inning when Thomasville scored five runs, the most allowed by the Owls in a single inning this season. Seth Constable worked a walk to lead off the inning. Then, a couple of runners reached on sacrifice bunts that were misplayed by the Owls. With the bases loaded and no one out, Justin Roland hit an infield single to drive in the first run of the game. Kyle Brandenburg followed with an RBI single that Nate Chong lost in the lights. DJ Long drove in two more runs on a flare to right field. Brandenburg added one more by scoring on a stolen base and throwing error. All told in the 3rd, the Hi-Toms scored five runs against Nick Lomascolo, but only two were earned thanks to three Owls errors.

Thomasville carried a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning after scoring two more unearned against Carson Herndon. Forest City finally got on the board after Bryan Aanderud drove in Stephen Tarkenton to make it 7-1. The Owls crept closer thanks to an Alex Close three-run homer in the 7th inning that brought the score to 8-4. The seven-run deficit matches the largest faced by Forest City this year, and the first time they've trailed by that many since May 31st in Martinsville.

Lomascolo lasted just three innings, his shortest outing of the year. It was also the first time in five starts he failed to record a quality start. Adam Westmoreland picked up two scoreless innings of relief after Lomascolo departed. Bryce Danielson and Nate Cudney also made appearances out of the bullpen for the Owls.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow night in Gastonia against the Grizzlies. Forest City ends the week when the Columbia Blowfish visit McNair Field on Saturday night. It will be Pink Out Night at the ballpark as the Owls will be wearing special pink jerseys to support the fight against breast cancer that will be auctioned off later. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field. If you can't make it in person, you can listen to the action live via WebPass through the Coastal Plain League website at www.coastalplain.com.
