Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
EDMONTON, AB - Defenceman Ron Hainsey had two goals and an assist, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to their second win in as many days and sixth victory in a row against the Edmonton Road Runners on Saturday afternoon at Rexall Place.
The Bulldogs record through 70 games now stands at 31-27-7-5, good enough for sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division. The Bulldogs currently sit two points ahead of the Syracuse Crunch, who play later tonight against the Barons in Cleveland.
Tomas Plekanec opened the scoring for the Bulldogs with his 24th goal of the season at 2:12 of the first period. The goal came on a 5-on-3 power-play and was assisted by Ron Hainsey and Trevor Daley.
After the Bulldogs out-shot the Road Runners 11-3 in the first period, Edmonton tied the game 1-1 just 3:12 into the second period. Jarret Stoll posted his 18th goal of the season on the power play from Kyle Brodziak and Paul Healey.
The Bulldogs regained the lead on the power play at 9:55 of the second period when Ron Hainsey redirected a Trevor Daley shot between the legs of goaltender Tyler Moss. Chris Higgins also picked up an assist on the 2-1 goal.
Steve Begin scored two goals in 2:41 of the third period to extend the Bulldogs lead to three goals. Begin beat Moss with a long shot from the point that went off the far post and in at the 10:37 mark. Then at 13:18, Begin scored again after one-timing a Jason Ward pass into the back of the net to make the score 4-1.
With their third power play goal of the game, the Bulldogs sealed the victory. Ron Hainsey posted his second goal and third point of the night at 15:45 of the third period. Trevor Daley tallied his third assist of the game on the goal.
Bulldogs netminder Yann Danis was solid between the pipes making 22 saves on 23 shots and earning his 23rd win of the season. Tyler Moss stopped 19 of the 24 shots he faced for the Road Runners while suffering the loss.
Hamilton's special teams play was exceptional, going 3-8 on the power play while allowing just one goal on nine attempts short-handed.
The Bulldogs next game is on Wednesday, March 30th, against the Manitoba Moose at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs will welcome their 'Two Millionth Fan' to this game and will be giving away over $20,000 games in prizes to lucky fans.
