Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers dropped the final game of their home stand to the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Wednesday night. Edenton (7-13) gave up a season-high 21 hits, while Fayetteville (6-13) picked up its second win against the Steamers.
Randy Dobnak shouldered the loss for the Teal and Black. Dobnak (2-1) surrendered six runs on 12 hits with one walk and two strikeouts in only 2.1 innings.
Zack Martinelli earned the victory for the Dogs. Martinelli (1-1) lasted six innings while allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and walking three batters and fanning five.
The SwampDogs jumped out to a lead in the first inning, singling in their first three at bats to load the bases. Tyler Tharp grounded out to first to break open the scoring, and Matt Lahn made 4-0 when he poked a homerun down the left field line.
Fayetteville added two more for a 6-0 lead in the third, but Edenton began crawling back into the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Bobby Schuman led off the frame with a single, moving to second when Richie Cunningham was hit by a pitch. A Tony Rosselli single scored Schuman and moved Cunningham to second. Two batters later, Tyler Ammerman reached on error that scored Cunningham from third.
The Steamers added two more runs in the fourth. Ryan Byers drew a one-out walk, and Aaron Aucker cut the Fayetteville lead to 6-4 with a two-run dinger.
The Dogs capitalized on two Edenton errors in the sixth, plating three runs to extend their lead to 9-4.
The Steamers finished off their scoring with a solo shot from Ammerman in the eighth, and the SwampDogs concluded scoring with a two-run homer from Hunter Dolshun to make it 11-5.
