Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers completed a series sweep against the Round Rock Express with a 3-1 win Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers have now won four straight games, including three consecutive home wins to start a season for the first time since 2007.
Oklahoma City (5-1) took the lead in the second inning of their three-game set with Round Rock.
Alex Verdugo hit a leadoff double to the wall in deep left-center field. Rob Segedin followed and singled on a grounder into left field. Express left fielder Michael O'Neill fielded the ball and threw to home plate where Verdugo beat the tag to put the Dodgers on the scoreboard, 1-0.
Breyvic Valera followed and lined a RBI single to center field, scoring Segedin and extending OKC's lead to 2-0 in the second inning in front of a crowd of 4,181.
Round Rock (1-7) brought home its lone run of the night on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to cut the Dodgers' lead to 2-1.
Segedin drilled a fly ball into left field for his first home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to put Oklahoma City on top, 3-1.
The Dodgers pitching staff held the Express to one run for a second straight night, and to four hits.
Oklahoma City starting pitcher Manny Bañuelos (1-0) threw 6.0 innings, allowing one run and two hits with one walk and four strikeouts in his first win of the season.
Pitcher Yimi Garcia joined Oklahoma City on a Major League rehab assignment Thursday for his first game action since July 29, 2016. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning, with a hit by pitch, flyout and an inning-ending double play. Pat Venditte tossed a scoreless, hitless eighth inning before Brian Schlitter entered the game and earned his first save, allowing two hits in a shutout ninth inning.
Express starting pitcher Yohander Mendez (0-2) was charged with the loss, allowing all three Dodgers runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
The Dodgers continue their seven-game homestand and open a four-game series against the New Orleans Baby Cakes at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Oklahoma City Police Department will assist mascot Brix in making a grand entrance to the ballpark Friday and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:40 p.m. to watch the pregame festivities.
Fireworks, presented by True Sky Credit Union, are slated to follow the conclusion of the game.
Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
