Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - Perhaps the only thing Vero Beach SS Joel Guzman had not accomplished this season is a promotion - that is until today. Honored by an appearance in the 2004 Futures Game as one of the top prospects in baseball, as well as a spot in the Florida State League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, Guzman was called up to the Double-A Jacksonville Suns today. In his stead, another highly-regarded prospect SS Chin-Lung Hu was promoted to high Class-A Vero Beach from low-A Columbus.

Guzman was hitting .307 in 87 games with team-best totals of 14 home runs, eight triples, 101 hits and 52 runs scored. He had hit .342 in June and .356 in July and was among the league-leaders in eight offensive categories, leading his Dodger team to 38 wins in their last 57 games.

Hu, an All-Star in the South Atlantic League in this just his second professional season, was enjoying a fine campaign as well. He had hit .298 in 84 games for Columbus, with six homers, 15 doubles and 17 stolen bases. He comes off of a month of June that saw him hit .347.

Hu joins the Dodgers in Clearwater for Monday's 5:05 PM twin bill with the Threshers.
