Road Fever

Brevard County Manatees News Release

Day seven has arrived at Space Coast Stadium and Darlene and Carlos (Darlos or Carlene, if you're into the Bennifer Hollywood name thing) the final two contestants are hanging tough.

At 7:14 pm today the pair will have logged in a total of 168 hours, or exactly seven days. A week doesn't seem that long if you're one of the contestants at a Furniture Store in Virginia that is having contestants sit outside under a tent in a make shift living room watching TV in hopes of winning that living room suite. But sit inside a Geo Metro with the windows down with a canopy that barely covers the car providing minimal shade and shelter from the storms and you have a whole new ballgame!

And that game is right here: Car Survivor sponsored by Lathem Auto Sales, inc. and co-sponsored by ESPN Radio 1060 AM and shade provided by our friends at Coca-Cola, because they're really cool people, too!

What have you accomplished in the past seven days? Think about that. What if you erased the last week of your life and rewrote it sitting inside a subcompact car?

In fact, what if you were actually driving the car down the interstate? How far would you have traveled in the time each contestant stayed with the car?

I know each of you will send me a screaming email saying my factoring doesn't meet your driving conditions, but here's what we determined to be mitigating factors in the Car Survivor driving experience: 70 mph on the interstate, periodic restroom/food/stretch breaks, a state patrolman/woman hiding under an overpass every 50 miles just to keep honest people honest, extreme periods of traffic including blue hairs driving 15 mph under the limit in bumper-to-bumper rush hours, road contraction, and no stops and any choke-n-puke that would cause any undo distress to our travelers forcing a midnight stop at a Bentonville, Arkansas chain store for some Maalox. With that being said, here are the comparisons to how far each has actually traveled.

Shannon: 3:00, or 180 miles Shannon had enough time to juke down to Miami during her short-but-furious burst in the Metro.

James: 21:16, or 1,275 miles James, who talked a mean game, had enough time to drive up to Portsmouth, NH for some lobster

Will: 73:46, or 4,395 miles Will jumped ship for the Cremation Certificate on Thursday night. Will had time to drive out AND BACK to Las Vegas, NV and enjoy the sunny desert (read: inferno) and could've had a smoking good time, got burned by a cruel sun, hit an awesome pizza place for real brick over pizza in Vegas, avoided heading through the mountains and ASHeville, NC, and yet, he opted for the cremation certificate.

Which takes us to Carlos/Darlene. Carlos/Darlene: 168:00, or 10,080 miles At 7:14 pm today they will have invested (yes, we think this is an investment) enough time to drive from stately Space Coast Stadium to Orlando, FL to Seattle, WA back to Miami, FL west to Los Angeles, CA and north to Boise, ID.

ROAD TRIP!

That's 10,080 miles, give or take a swing through a Waffle-style restaurant or two for nourishment.

Now, how was your week?

Tonight's game is the final game on this eight-game home stand. Gates open at 6:00 pm for a scheduled 7:05 start against the Ft Myers Miracle. If you pay full price at the gate tonight it's because you're lazy or don't receive this email newsletter. Either way we'll just stop and stare at you wondering what you're thinking?! Swing by any area Space Coast Credit Union and pick up discount ticket vouchers that get you and up to nine guests in for only two bones per person! Not only that, $1 off each voucher goes back to SCCU for donations to area schools to assist teachers in stretching their budgets to help your kids with school supplies!

If you want to pay full price, hey, that's your option. But save a few bucks, help local schools, and pick up your discount voucher today! SCCU is the official financial institution of Space Coast Stadium.

Immediately following the game we'll have another SCCU ‘Throw For The Dough' contest! One lucky fan in attendance will receive an opportunity to chunk a baseball from the Pitcher's Mound to Home Plate at a target. If successful, that fan will win $50,000. Make sure you sign up at Guest Services tonight. We'll select a contestant by the middle of the game.

The team hits the trail to Clearwater tomorrow for four games and ends up in Daytona Beach this Saturday night for a game against the Cubbies.

Next Sunday is an off day, then the boys hit Palm Beach for four more games before (finally!) coming back to The Farm on Friday, July 30th. If you're going to need a baseball fix between now and the end of the month, this is it!

Our next newsletter will give you the updated promo schedule for the remainder of the season! You're not going to want to miss out on all the highlights at Space Coast Stadium yet to come; it's fan-friendly!

Have a blah back-to-work Monday and we'll see you tonight to help wipe that Monday frown off your face! Now get back to work before your boss catches you reading personal emails at work!

Rock On!
