DockHounds Top Cougars in Rain-Shortened Game on Wednesday

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars fell to the Lake Country DockHounds in a second straight game as the DockHounds claimed a 7-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon. Due to rain, the game was called after seven innings.

For the second straight game, the DockHounds (24-40) jumped out to an early lead against Cougars' (32-33) starter Jose Fuentes (4-2). In the first inning, the DockHounds smacked four singles, with Gabriel Noriega and Wilfredo Gimenez each driving in a run to put Lake County ahead 2-0. The DockHounds added two more in the third on a two-run single by Tristen Carranza to make it 4-0.

The Cougars cut into the lead against DockHounds' starter Jesse Remington (2-3) in the bottom of the third inning. To lead off the inning, Nick Anderson launched a solo homer over the left-center field fence. It was Anderson's first home run since Opening Night on May 13.

However, the DockHounds added three more runs against Fuentes in the top of the sixth. Lamar Briggs drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI triple to deep right-center field. The next batter, Casey Dykstra, blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence to make it 7-1. It was Dykstra's first professional hit and home run.

Kane County did add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh against the Lake Country bullpen. With the bases loaded, Alexis Pantoja drove in a run with an RBI single to right-center field. The Cougars drove in one more on a sacrifice fly from BJ Lopez to make it 7-3.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, heavy rains began to come down with Ernie De La Trinidad at the plate, ending the game.

The series with the DockHounds concludes Thursday The DockHounds will send left-hander Greg Loukinen (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against righty Jack Fox (6-1, 2.76) for the Cougars. first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Promotions for the remainder of the homestand include Schitt's Creek Night on Thursday, July 27th, and Christmas in July Night on Saturday, July 30th.
