Lake Country DockHounds News Release
GENEVA, ILL. - The Lake Country DockHounds took down the Kane County Cougars by a 7-3 final score on Wednesday afternoon.
After winning in a 13-12 thriller a night ago, Lake Country looked to win in a more unceremonious fashion today.
It was the small-ball hitting that gave the DockHounds their first two runs in the first inning. Jordan Schaffer and Gio Brusa got on base as they notched a pair of singles for the game's first hits. Gabriel Noriega and Wilfredo Gimenez each drove in a run with base knocks.
Noriega and TJ Bennett provided singles in the third inning, while Daikan Yoh drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Tristen Carranza drove in two runners with his own base hit. The score was then 4-0 DockHounds.
Kane County's first run came in the bottom half of the third. It was a solo home run by Nick Anderson which hit the top of the scoreboard in left field.
In the sixth frame, Lake Country provided some insurance runs. After hitting Carranza with a pitch, Jose Fuentes was called for a balk on the mound, advancing a runner into scoring position. Lamar Briggs tripled to center field for his first hit of the contest, scoring Tristen Carranza.
Immediately following the triple, the newcomer Casey Dykstra notched his first professional hit, and it was a good one. He hit the sweet spot on his birch bat and it sailed over the right-field wall for a two-run blast. The lead was extended in favor of the DockHounds, 7-1.
The Cougars would score two in the seventh. One from an Alexis Pantoja single, and the other on a sac-fly from BJ Lopez.
Jesse Remington earned the victory, allowing one run and three hits through six full innings of work.
The DockHounds will wrap up the series at Northwestern Medicine Field on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. After the contest, the team hits the road for Winnipeg, their first-ever trip to Canada to take on the Goldeyes. Broadcaster Sam Matheny will be on the call for the series, live from Shaw Park.
