Dmitri Young Joins Lake Monsters on Rehab Assignment

BURLINGTON, VT --- Washington Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young will be playing with the Vermont Lake Monsters during the final week of the New York-Penn League season on a rehab assignment, making him the first current Major League player to rehab with Vermont in its 15-year history.

Young, who has been on the Nationals disabled list since early July due to complications in controlling his diabetes, has been in Florida working out with the Gulf Coast League Nationals since August 22nd to try and get himself back into baseball shape before rejoining Washington.

The 2007 National League Comeback Player of the Year and Washington's representative at the 2007 All-Star Game, Young was hittiing .280 with four home runs in 50 games for the Nationals in 2008 before going on the disabled list. He has hit 171 career home runs in 1,364 Major League games in 13 seasons.

The plan for Young during his week with the Lake Monsters is to DH for a couple of at bats on Monday and Tuesday, then play first base in each of Vermont's final four games of the season at historic Centennial Field. The Lake Monsters host the Tri-City ValleyCats on Wednesday and Thursday before ending the season with home games against the Oneonta Tigers on Friday and Saturday.
