State College Spikes News Release

-SPIKES START LAST HOMESTAND TODAY: The Spikes begin their final homestand of the year with the first game of a two-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs. Former Spikes manager Mark DeJohn returns for his fourth series against his former New York-Penn League club. Batavia has taken five of the six games between the two teams this year, including two out of three in the last series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park between the two teams.

-LAST NIGHT: Auburn blanked the Spikes for the win, 3-0, sweeping a two-game series from State College at Falcon Park. Neither team got on the board until the sixth, thanks to both starting pitchers. Kyle McPherson allowed only a hit and a walk over five innings for State College, striking out five and retiring the last 13 batters he faced in order. Auburn's Josh Wells matched him with five scoreless frames, and the Doubledays got a two-run triple from Brian Van Kirk to take the lead in the sixth. Auburn added an insurance run in the seventh. Quincy Latimore and Josue Peley had doubles for the Spikes.

-TONIGHT'S SPIKES STARTER: Brian Leach makes his eighth start of the year and 15th overall appearance tonight for State College. The right-hander started against Jamestown in the final game of a road trip five nights ago, going one inning and allowing two runs on three hits. Leach has been very good as a start most of the time, though. Leach's ERA in a starting role still stands at 2.92.

-TONIGHT'S MUCKDOGS STARTER: Tonight's Batavia starter has not been announced. The Muckdogs are currently fifth in the New York-Penn League in team ERA with a 3.31 mark, and have walked 208 batters to 536 strikeouts, better than a two to one ratio. Batavia's Arquimedes Nieto continues to be in the NYPL's top ten in ERA at 1.76, to go along with a 6-1 record. Batavia's Adam Reifer is also tied for the league lead in saves with 21.

-MARTINEZ THROWING ZEROES: The Spikes' Yoffri Martinez has not allowed a hit in his last two appearances, totaling 6.2 innings. Martinez has also struck out eight in that time frame.
