San Diego Sockers News Release
SAN DIEGO (Saturday - MP #17-17) - The MASL Pacific Division champion Sockers play host to the Soles de Sonora on Sunday, February 11, 5:05 p.m. at Valley View Casino Center on Alumni Night. San Diego clinched the title with a 10-3 romp over Tacoma last night. Sonora, eight straight, is playing tonight against Turlock at home before traveling to the U.S. Since the teams have split the season series, the winner of the match would have home-field advantage if they would meet in the Conference Final.
Sonora forward Franck Tayou leads the league in goals with 47 and has a total of 53 points currently. Four players have 20 points or more including Anibal Echeverria (26), Enrique Canez (24), Gustavo Rosales (22), and Cristian Segura (21). The Soles, who are averaging 8.4 goals against, have used three different goaltenders this year, Sonora has not lost since December 17 and will probably finish in second place behind Monterrey in the Southwest Division.
San Diego played one of its best games of the season against the Stars. The Sockers dominated from start to finish to secure home-field advantage in the Divisional Championship Series. After facing Sonora, the Sockers will travel to Florida next week to play the Tropics back-to0-back over the weekend.
Thirty alumni will be participating in the festivities and halftime game on Alumni Night.
