Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, February 4, 2009 - Portland LumberJax goalie Matt Disher has been named the National Lacrosse League's Overall and Defensive Player of the Week for week five, the league announced today. The NLL's saves leader with 254 saves, Disher stopped 46 of the 54 shots he faced as Portland beat the expansion Boston Blazers 9-8 in overtime last Saturday.

"Matt has been solid from game one on," said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "He has consistently given us a chance to win and on a couple of occasions, like this past weekend in Boston, has been spectacular."

On the season, Disher has been an instrumental part of Portland's 3-3 record. The 10-year veteran has made at least 32 saves in every game this season and has only allowed 9.52 goals-per-game in addition to stopping 81.7% of the shots he's faced.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Disher was acquired by Portland at the trade deadline last March. This is the first time a Portland player has been named both the Overall and Defensive Player of the Week.

The Jax begin a two-game homestand on Saturday, February 7th when Portland hosts the San Jose Stealth at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden Arena.
