Dillas Sneak By WhiteWings In Cardona's Return

Harlingen, TX - The first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (39-38, 10-17) welcomed left fielder David Cardona back to the lineup today, but it wasn't enough as the WhiteWings fell to the Amarillo Dillas (42-37, 16-13) 7-3 today at Harlingen Field.

The Dillas made it 1-0 in the first against Angel Cordero as Jonathan Reynoso singled and came home to score on a two-out RBI-ground rule double by Gary Schneidmiller.

The WhiteWings tied it up in the bottom of the frame as Omar Bramasco singled against Kyle Allen (6-6) and Miguel Peguero followed with a ground rule double. After a Ryan Fox walk, Cardona hit into an RBI-fielder's choice in his first at-bat since June 10th to tie the game 1-1.

Cardona missed 44 games with a broken left forearm and was activated from the inactive list today.

The WhiteWings got back on top in the third when Bramasco hit a one-out single. One out later, Fox hit an RBI-double to make it 2-1.

The Dillas took the lead in the sixth when Ricky Owens Jr., Jordan Ramos and Brendan Hitchcock led off with a singles to load the bases, Cordero stuck out the next two batters, but Carlos Figueroa hit a two-run single to make it 3-2 Dillas and knock out Cordero. Joey Cress (3-6) finished off the inning unscathed.

The WhiteWings tied it up in the bottom of the frame as Luany Sanchez, Danilo Reynoso and Brian Nichols hit one-out singles to make it 3-3.

The Dillas jumped back on top in the eighth against Bobby Darling (3-1) when Figueroa and Danny Bravo led off with singles. After a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Owens hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.

The Dillas added some insurance in the ninth with one out as Reynoso and Ashton singled. Figueroa walked and Danny Bravo hit an RBI-single to knock out Darling and make it 5-3. Todd Lutz came in and gave up an RBI single to Schneidmiller followed by an RBI ground out to Jack Chapman to make it 7-3.

Drew Jackson pitched the final two innings to pick up his fourth save.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play complete this four game set tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Joe Rogers (9-2) is expected to face Dario Ferrand (0-8).
