James fires Aces past Colts

San Angelo, TX Tuesday August 1, 2007- The Alexandria Aces got a strong pitching performance from Frank James for six plus innings and defeated the San Angelo Colts by the score of 6-4 in front of 1,716 fans at Foster Field.

Frank James went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out five to give the Aces the series with the win. James (8-3) threw 102 pitches, 69 for strikes and cruised through the first six innings. James ran into trouble in the seventh after retiring the leadoff hitter Andres Rodriguez. James then allowed five straight hits as the Colts got three runs in the inning to cut the lead to 6-4. In came Juan Carlos Ovalles to close out the inning, allowing a hit to Brett Donahoo, then getting Jason Crosland to ground out to Richard Paz at second for the final out of the inning. Ovalles worked 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, but not surrendering a run.

Justin Dowdy worked a scoreless ninth to record his league leading 18th save of the season .

Richard Paz was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in to pace Alexandria. leadoff hitter Tyrone Pendergrass was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in as well. Selwyn Langaigne added another multiple hit affair for the Aces going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a rbi sacrifice fly in the first inning. Bryan Sabatella also added a multiple hit game with a 2-for-4 performance.

Colts starter Matt Duff worjed 7.0 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits, while walking one and striking out eight. Ryan Mulle worked a scoreless eighth, and Chase Vacek worked a scoreless ninth in relief for the Colts.

Brett Donahoo was 3-for-5 with a solo home run to lead San Angelo and their 11 hits off of Aces pitching.
