Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - With just ten home games left in the regular season, the Dillas (34-27) won their fifth straight game last night by beating the Laredo Broncos 3-2, in a good old fashion pitchers' duel. The consecutive win streak has perfect timing allowing Amarillo to keep pace with the hottest team in the United League in the Edinburg Roadrunners (35-27), who came from behind last night to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings for their eleventh straight victory, maintaining a one-game lead over the defending United League Champions.
The Dillas went into last night's contest needing just 929 fans to break 100,000 in attendance for the season and with a crowd of 2,237, they moved passed that mark with ease. And to think, that just a little over four years ago there wasn't any professional baseball being played in Amarillo after the Dillas left in 2004 leaving the small West Texas community without a baseball team to support in 2005.
In the time since, the Dillas have set a club record in attendance for any four-year stretch dating back to their very first season of play in 1994, in the Texas-Louisiana League, with over some 500,000 fans enjoying Dillas' baseball from 2006 through last night - 520,608 to be exact.
"When I think of where we've (Dillas) come since my first days with the Dillas back in 2003 and 2004 to where we are now, is amazing", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "You couldn't write a book that has a better story to be told then what has transformed here in Amarillo over the last four years", added Lee. "You'd almost have to be here to believe it, unless you a part of those 500,000 plus fans who have enjoyed it right alongside of us, because they have believed in us since May 2006".
The Dillas continue their chase for a second consecutive United League Pennant when they host the Laredo Broncos tonight for game three of the four-game series that concludes tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and everyone will receive a FREE ticket to the game courtesy of Britkare. After tomorrow's game the Dillas head to San Angelo for a pivotal four-game series before returning home for the final eight-game regular season home stand on Thursday, August 20, when they will play the same San Angelo team to kick-off the season finale.
