Roadrunners' Streak Climbs To 12

HARLINGEN, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners extended their win streak to 12 in a row with a 12-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Friday night at Harlingen Field.

Miguel Martinez (6-4) pitched eight innings and allowed two runs while scattering eight hits and striking out nine for his sixth win of the season.

The Roadrunners (36-27) got on the score board in the first inning as Carlos Hereaud hit a two-run home run off of WhiteWings' starter Juan Fragoso (0-1). Hunter Owen was walked and Bryon Smith followed with a single to center field putting runners at first and second for Vincent Blue who hit an RBI single to center that drove in Owen for the third run of the inning. After a walk to Eric Gonzalez, Cameron McGuire singled to right field that allowed Smith to score but a fielding error allowed Blue to touch home plate giving Edinburg the early 5-0 lead.

In the second, two singles by Matlock and Owen put two runners on for Smith who hit a three-run home run to deep left field extending the Roadrunners lead to 8-0.

An RBI single by Matlock in the top of the third drove in Nick Aranda from second base making the score 9-0.

Rio Grande Valley (28-35) got their first run of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Justin Holloway that allowed Alberto Cruz to score from first for a 9-1 score.

Cameron McGuire hit his team leading sixth home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning extending the Roadrunners lead to 10-1.

In the top of the sixth inning Owen, who went 3-for-4 on the night, hit a solo home run giving Edinburg the 11-1 advantage.

McGuire hit the team's fifth home run of the game in the top of the eighth inning, his second, making the score 12-1.

RGV scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth after Rico Santana hit his third home run of the season to deep left field cutting the lead to 12-2 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Danny Rondon struck out the side in the ninth to end the game giving Edinburg the 12-2 victory.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the final game of this four-game series Saturday night at Harlingen Field. Danny Rondon (4-0) is expected to face Juan Peralta (1-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
