Amarillo Dillas News Release

EDINBURG, TX - The Dillas fought hard but couldn't overcome four early Edinburg runs as the Coyotes defeated Amarillo 5-2 on Wednesday night at Edinburg field.

Dillas starter Kyle Allen (4-3) couldn't get out of the second as he went an inning and a third and gave up four runs and five hits. Edinburg starter Ryan Harris (9-6) went seven innings, gave up both Amarillo runs and struck out six for the win. The Coyotes' Kelly Casares earned save number six despite giving up two hits in the ninth.

The Dillas got their first run of the series in the first inning. Marcus Lewis led off with a walk, stole second base and went to third on a Carlos Figueroa flyout. Lewis would score on a Carlos Mendoza double to left field for a 1-0 Dillas lead.

Unfortunately, Edinburg scored four runs in the first two innings off Allen for a 4-1 lead.

Amarillo would get another run in the seventh after Justin Wenger singled and was hit around by a double by Brett Donahoo. Donahoo would be at third with two outs and an apparent balk by Harris would not be called and the inning would end with the score 4-2. Both manager Buddy Biancalana and John-Paul Davis would be ejected arguing the call.

After another Edinburg run, Amarillo would try to tie the game in the ninth off Casares. With the first two batters reaching, they had a chance to tie, but they could not produce as they were given a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Coyotes.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 38-45 on the season and remain in fifth place, a game behind fourth place Laredo but are only two-and-a-half games back of third place Alexandria (both teams played against each other Wednesday night and Alexandria was ahead 3-0 in the eighth at time of publishing). On Thursday, Amarillo will finish the season series with the Coyotes at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1440 AM The Score. Game time is tentative and is subject to change. Following Thursday's game, Amarillo will travel to Laredo to begin a crucial three-game set with the Broncos beginning on Friday.
