HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings have announced that outfielder Braulio Castillo has been named the Johnny's True Value MVP of the Month for July. Castillo was honored in a pregame ceremony at the Aug. 15 RGV-San Angelo game.

During July, Castillo batted .402 with three home runs and 24 RBIs in 25 games. In 92 at-bats, he had seven doubles and three triples. His slugging percentage was a robust .641, and his on-base percentage was .486. For the season, Castillo is batting .370 with six homers and 30 RBIs in 138 at-bats.

Castillo had some tough competition for the award, as infielder Jermy Acey (.352 avg., 15 RBIs), reliever Clemente Doble (3-0, 2.10 ERA) and starter Joe Rogers (3-0, 2.18, 31 K, 3 BB) also had outstanding months.

Castillo follows Antoin Gray (June) and A. J. Bozenhard (May) as earlier winners. The Johnny's True Value Season MVP Award will be announced at the Wings' final regular season home game, Sunday, Aug. 20.
