Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN - The Amarillo Dillas captured their second consecutive victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Wednesday night, earning a 5-2 decision in United League Baseball action at Harlingen Field.
The Dillas improved to 8-12 overall with the victory, while the WhiteWings dropped to 7-13. The story of the season so far for Rio Grande Valley has been runners left on base, and Wednesday was no exception. The WhiteWings left nine runners stranded. While only compiling four hits, the Wings did benefit from six walks from Amarillo starter Taylor Allen. Allen, however, pitched eight strong innings, allowing only three hits and two earned runs. He struck out five.
RGV starter Adam Hanson (2-2) went seven innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. He struck out eight and walked three. Clemente Doble finished up, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. He struck out two and walked one.
The WhiteWings, sporting a new-look lineup, scored first in the bottom of the second, as Jordan Szabo doubled with two outs. He came home on a double by leadoff batter Sam McLain. The Dillas struck for three runs in the top of the third off Hanson. Carlos Figuero had a two-run single, and a third run scored on a passed ball as Amarillo took a 3-1 lead.
The Dillas added single runs in the seventh and ninth innings, while the WhiteWings scored their final run in the bottom of the ninth. Szabo, who had two of the four Rio Grande Valley hits, doubled home pinch-runner Roberto Morillo with one out, but McLain struck out and Omar Bramasco flied out to end the game.
The WhiteWings will host Amarillo in the finale of the three-game set Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The probable starters are Danny Bonilla (1-0, 4.15 ERA) for RGV and Josh Parker (1-2, 5.40) for the Dillas.
