Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
It was a good one here at Edinburg baseball stadium as the Coyotes grab another win from the Aces to lead the season series 5-0. What looked like a blow out early on, quickly turned in to nail biting action.
The Coyotes would send 11 men to the plate as they manufactured 6 runs off of 3 hits in the bottom of the first inning. Those runs would come off a mix of walks, hit batsmen and good situational hitting by Cancel and Cherry.
Edinburg would not get another hit until the 7th inning, which allowed Alexandria to climb their way back in to the game. Slowly but surly, the Aces would get runs in the top of the second, fourth, sixth and seventh to time the game up at 6.
The Coyotes would start to rally in the eight with a lead off single by Garvi Arias. A sacrifice bunt and error by Aces catcher Kevin Griffin would allow Arias to advance to third and leave Cherry safe at second. Lorenzo Grijalva would be Wednesday night's hero as his triple to right field would score Arias and Cherry. The Coyotes then had 8-6 lead that they would not let go of. Julio Castro notched his third win of the season and Edwar Ramirez struck out the side for his ninth save.
RHP Julio Ruiz (4-0) will throw Thursday night against RHP Santo Hernandez (2-0)
The Edinburg Coyotes are part of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is in its inaugural season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana. The ULB will play a 90-game schedule between May and August 2006.
