Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Last Friday was another tough day at the ballpark when the Dillas were rained out for the third time in seven days and for the sixth time this year. But ironically enough, the rain the skies brought on the would-be seventh day of the home stand produced excitement with an unexpected visit of "Heavenly" proportion, if you will.

With over 2,000 people standing in the concourse of the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa waiting out the rain while the clouds above dropped inches of rain, it didn't appear that anything could brighten the skies of the evening. Well that's until the Dillas were graced with their newest fan who had traveled all the way from Los Angeles to take in a minor league baseball game.

"One of my staff members called me to the front of the stadium to tell me we had a special guest in the ballpark", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "The staff member wouldn't tell me who it was over the phone but when I finally made my way through the crowd, I was shocked to learn that Stephen Collins had bought a ticket to the game".

The popular actor from the long-time WB series "7th Heaven" was driving a car, for his daughter, on his way to North Carolina when the die-hard minor league baseball fan decided to take in a Dillas' game. "7th Heaven" was an American drama television series, created and produced by Brenda Hampton. The series premiered on Monday August 26, 1996, on the WB, the first time that the network aired Monday night programming, and was originally broadcast from 1996-2007. The series finale was scheduled for May 8, 2006; however, the show was renewed by the CW when the intended final episode received high ratings. The 11th and final season premiered on Monday, September 25, 2006 and ended on May 13, 2007. 7th Heaven is the longest running series that has ever aired on The WB, the longest running family drama in television history and the longest running show produced by the late Aaron Spelling. The show tells the story about a Protestant minister's family living in the fictional town of Glenoak, California.

"By Friday we (Dillas) had just about enough of the rain as we could take during what was a challenging home, stand to say the least", Lee said. "But it was a privilege to have Stephen (Collins) in our ballpark, he signed every request for an autograph and took picture after picture with adoring fans", added Lee. "His visit certainly turned another dreary day into a great evening".

The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club is a charter member of United League Baseball, a Professional Independent League, with six teams playing in Texas. ULB teams are located in Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, and San Angelo.
