Back-And-Forth Favors Dillas

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas bullpen went five innings and allowed only one hit and struck out seven as the Dillas won a back-and-forth game over the San Angelo Colts 8-7 on Thursday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 2,877 fans.

Dillas reliever Matt Smith (4-3) got the win as he allowed only one run and one hit in three-and-a-third of relief, striking out three in the process. Colts reliever Douglas Brandt (1-3) got the loss as he gave up five runs in two-and-a-third of relief. Andy Noonan got his fourth save, striking out both batters he faced in the ninth in the effort.

The Dillas and Colts exchanged runs in the first. San Angelo's John Anderson tripled home Richard oPaz, while Amarillo's Carlos Figueroa singled to score Keanon Simon for a 1-1 tie game.

The Colts retook the lead in the second as Hunter Jobes drew a bases-loaded walk to give San Angelo a 2-1 lead. The Dillas responded in the third with another Figueroa RBI single and an RBI sacrifice fly by Trent Lockwood gave Amarillo their first lead at 3-2.

San Angleo took back the lead with four runs off four hits in the fourth to retake the lead by 6-3. Amarillo re-took back the lead in the fifth as Figueroa and Lockwood added another RBI each, while Angel Reyes grounded out to score Figueroa. Justin Wenger capped off the inning with a 2-RBI single to score Terrance McClain and Lockwood for a 8-6 Dillas lead.

The Colts got one of the two runs of the deficit back in the seventh as Jason Landreth hit his 17th homerun of the season to lead off the inning, pulling the score to 8-7.

After the homerun, Smith, Coby Mavroulis and Noonan allowed only one runner to reach and struck out seven of the next 10 batters to preserve the 8-7 victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 38-30, while the Colts fall to 44-25. Friday, Amarillo will host San Angelo for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set for 6:50 pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
