
Roadrunners Win For 25th Time At Home

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Laredo Broncos 5-3 for their 25th home victory of the season Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,186.
Danny Rondon (5-1) picked up his fifth win of the season after he allowed three runs, two earned, while scattering five hits and striking out seven in eight innings of work.
Edinburg (39-30) took the early lead with some help from the Broncos' defense in the bottom of the first inning with Wimer Pino reaching on a throwing error and was awarded second base. After two outs, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI single to left field that allowed Pino to score the first run of the game. Hunter Owen drew a walk to put runners at first and second for Bryon Smith who reached on an error that also allowed Hereaud to score from third. Vincent Blue followed with an RBI single to left field that drove in Owen giving the Roadrunners the 3-0 lead.
Edinburg scored another run in the bottom of the second inning after Hunter Owen drew an RBI bases loaded walk that allowed Pino to score making it a 4-0 game.
Laredo (21-48) got on the score board against Rondon in the top of the fourth with a two-run double down the first base line by Luis Ugueto making it a 4-2 game in favor of the Roadrunners.
Edinburg extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth on a double play off the bat of Hector Garanzuay that allowed Pino to touch home plate making the score 5-2.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Broncos scored another run after an error kept the inning going for Jaime Morales who hit an RBI single to drive in Derek Beckman from second cutting the Roadrunners lead 5-3.
Kelly Casares pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 13th save of the season giving Edinburg the 5-3 victory.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the second game of this four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (5-2) is expected to face Aaron Jenkins (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
