
Dillas Fall In Game One

EDINBURG, TX - The Amarillo Dillas had a two-run lead though five innings, but a big seventh inning gave the Edinburg Roadrunners the lead, which they maintained for a 6-2 win over the Dillas, taking game one of the best-of-three series on Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Dillas starter Richard Jessup (0-1) got the loss, despite not giving up any runs through five, allowed runs in the sixth and seventh. Roadrunners starter Jose Pablo Oyervidez (1-0) got the win, allowing only the two runs through six innings.
The Dillas took the lead in the second by loading the bases with no outs. Willie James stepped up with a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Wong from third. Eric Brown followed with a stolen base to move to third while Keanon Simon hit into a fielder's choice that scored Brown for a 2-0 lead.
Edinburg got one of the runs back in the sixth inning as Carlos Hereaud hit a ball over to third base with a runner at third. Third baseman Wong threw home to get Eric Gonzalez, but was not in time to get the runner to make the score 2-1.
The Roadrunners took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped off by a two-run RBI single by Eric Gonzalez for a 5-2 lead. Edinburg added another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to move up by four.
Amarillo loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth as Brian Bueno walked, James was hit by a pitch and Keanon Simon walked for Stantrel Smith. Against new pitcher Brian Heaston, Smith hit into a double play to get the runners at third an home. Figueroa grounded out to end the game with the Dillas falling 6-2 in game one.
With the loss, the Dillas are in an 0-1 hole in the best-of-three first round playoff against the Roadrunners. Wednesday, Amarillo remains in Edinburg to play the Roadrunners for the second game of the playoff series at 7:05pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
