Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - If run support for Dillas pitchers was previously an issue, it wasn't on this day.
The Amarillo Dillas pounded out 12 hits and as many runs in defeating the Rio Grande Valley White Wings 12-3 on Friday night in front of 3,581 at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.
Dillas' starter Taylor Allen (9-4) went eight innings, gave up five hits and three runs while striking out five. The White Wings' Danny Bonilla (2-6) went only two innings, gave up seven hits and six runs.
Amarillo wasted no time in scoring. In the bottom of the first, Marcus Lewis would score on a Carlos Figueroa single, Jordan Ramos would score on a Carlos Mendoza single and Danny Bravo would score on a John-Paul Davis sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.
The White Wings would respond with two in the second off Allen but Amarillo would keep pounding the runs. The first pitch of the bottom of the third inning was powered over the right-field wall by Figueroa for his sixth homer. Bravo, Davis and Bryce Morrison would also come across in the inning for a 7-2 lead.
In the fifth, walks and infield hits gave Amarillo more scores. Ericnardo Padilla, Lewis, Figueroa, Bravo and Mendoza would all score for a 12-2 Amarillo advantage.
Despite one run by Rio Grande Valley in the sixth, it would be all zeros after that for the final score of 12-3.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 35-43 and remain in sole possession of fifth place behind the Laredo Broncos. On Saturday, the Dillas will take on these White Wings for the second of a three-game set at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1440 AM The Score. The game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
